No Tornadoes

I love the weather here in Canon City, Co. It is just now getting really warm, and unlike Oklahoma the humidity is very mild. I love that it may get in the 90's, but as soon as the sun begins to set the temp drops and immediately becomes the best evening ever.

Here in Canon the sun shines most days, even if it rains it wont last long before the sun is out again. I love it.

Something else that has won my heart is the lack of tornadoes. Because we are right against the beginnings of the mountains, tornadoes do not form here. They do in the town near by, but it is 35 miles from here. This makes me very happy. I have a terrible fear of tornadoes. Not sure why, I have never actually been in one. Yet, for some reason, when the storm clouds roll in and they look ugly, my stomach gets all tied up. Once the sirens go off, I start freaking out. I am the first to run to a basement or some place safe for hiding.

When I was little my mom gave me a verse in hopes to help me not be so fearful. 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of Love, Power, and Self Control." I would repeat this over and over, as I continued to freak out.

My fear of these frighting storms continued even into marriage. The first tornadic storm Paul and I went through was very entertaining, according to Paul. When the sirens went off, I began going through the house and collecting random things: Pillow, computer, caned food, and blanket. I also turned off all the lights, the air conditioner and t.v. I then quickly went down to the basement of our apartment complex. I am not sure why I collected all those things, nor why I turned off everything, but in my mind it was a legit reason.

That gives you a taste of how silly my fear is, yet how terrified I do get.

Last week, Paul was in Muskogee and told me that the sirens had gone off and several tornadoes touched down in surrounding towns. While, here in Canon, we had a down pour lasting 10 minutes before the sun came back out. Yup, although I miss Oklahoma, I do not miss the tornadic storms she has. I am happy to be in my sunny town of Canon City, at least during the spring time.
